The younger brother of Princess Diana, 59, hailed the Princess of Wales on Saturday after her Friday video statement that she has cancer and is getting treatment.
Princess Kate released a sad Instagram video on Friday revealing that post-operative tests from her January stomach surgery "found cancer had been present.
Kate, who started preventative chemotherapy in late February, said she and Prince William needed time to tell their children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, before making the public announcement.
After her cancer diagnosis, the princess' family rallied around her.
King Charles, who is also battling cancer, said he is “how proud” of his daughter-in-law.
Kings, 75, are "so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told PEOPLE.
King Charles and Princess Kate were hospitalized at London Clinic in January. The king has "remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks," the spokeswoman said.
