Former Cowboys Player Died From Cancer At 66

A former Dallas Cowboys player died from cancer earlier this month.

Don Smerek, a former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman, died on March 16. According to the Dallas Morning News, he died of cancer.

The former University of Nevada collegiate football star went undrafted out of school. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys.

Smerek went on to play 69 games for the Cowboys, recording 14.5 sacks over his career.

Randy White, a legendary Cowboys player, is devastated by his former teammate's death on Thursday.

"He was a great teammate, and a great person," White told the Dallas Morning News. "He was a terrific football player, and I could always count on him.

He'd come in on third downs and pressure the passer, and Don was a complete football player."
