Linn-Mar announces 50 job cuts next year.

Marion, Iowa (KCRG) The Linn-Mar School District announced 50 full-time staff cuts for 2024/2025 on Thursday.

At Monday's board meeting, the district indicated that they would have to cut $2.5 million for the upcoming school year after cutting $3 million this year.

“As a district, we are focused on managing these financial challenges while minimizing the impact on our operations and the quality of our students

education,” stated Superintendent Amy Kortemeyer. “We make these decisions carefully because every school staff member provides exceptional

l value to our students and families. However, we must balance our budget and maintain financial health.”

Budget cuts would eliminate 19 full-time teaching and 31 full-time classified staff positions.

The district blames expiring COVID-19 relief assistance, low state legislature funding, and dwindling enrollment for the budgetary imbalance.

“We are fortunate to serve a community that supports its local schools and their people,” Kortemeyer added
