On Friday, Kate, the Princess of Wales, disclosed that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is presently undergoing chemotherapy.
In a video statement released on Friday, she disclosed that she had undergone significant abdominal surgery in London in January.
Initially believed to be noncancerous, tests conducted after the operation revealed the presence of cancer.
Kate stated, "The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.
My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment."
"This naturally came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family," her statement continued.
"I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body, and spirits," Kate later added in her speech, while also requesting space and privacy during her treatment. The type and stage of cancer were not disclosed.
Buckingham Palace commented that King Charles III, her father-in-law, was "so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did."
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also issued a statement, expressing their wishes for Kate's health and healing, and hoping for privacy and peace for the family.
