Randy Travis is celebrating a significant milestone today (March 7). On this day in 1986, the singer made his debut on the legendary Grand Ole Opry stage.
Travis was introduced by Little Jimmy Dickens and played Hank Williams' song "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry.
Three months later, he released his debut album, Storms of Life. The year was significant for the singer,
who returned to the Opry on December 20 and was invited to join a member that night. Travis played his No. 1 song
"Diggin' Up Bones," from Storms of Life, after being introduced by Ricky Skaggs
Travis previously stated, "Every time you walk on the Opry stage, you get a special feeling that I wish I could describe.
"There is a wonderful energy on the stage..." I am extremely proud to be a member of the Opry.
Travis' 25th anniversary as an Opry member was marked by a star-studded event at the legendary theater in 2011. In 2008, Travis welcomed Josh Turner, John Anderson, and Carrie Underwood to join the Opry.
