The news of Toby Keith's induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame did not reach him before he passed away.

A posthumous commendation will be bestowed upon Toby Keith.

The country music singer, who died of stomach cancer at 62 in February, will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

In a news statement, the Country Music Association (CMA) stated that “election to the Country Music Hall of Fame is country music’s highest honor...

... and new members are elected annually by an anonymous panel of industry leaders.”

John Anderson and James Burton will be inducted.

Sarah Trahern, CMA CEO, announced the new honorees Monday morning in the Hall of Fame Rotunda, according to Rolling Stone.

Keith died before receiving the good news, so she described the nominating procedure.

“My heart sank that Tuesday afternoon, knowing that we had missed the chance to inform Toby while he was still with us.
