UConn outlasts Marquette to win Big East tourney, make case for No. 1 overall seed

The Big East men's basketball tournament was won on Saturday by UConn.

On Sunday, we'll find out if the Huskies have secured the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament.

The Huskies, who were ranked first in the Big East, overcame Marquette, the number three seed, in the second half of the game to add another victory to their March Madness resume.

Even more advantageous for UConn was a game that concluded less than an hour earlier: Iowa State defeated Houston,,,

UConn's main rival for the top overall seed, 69-41, in the Big 12 championship game.

On Sunday at 6 p.m. ET, the NCAA tournament bracket will be unveiled.

At Madison Square Garden, UConn and Marquette got off to a poor start as the two teams combined to shoot just 1-for-17 from the field to begin the game.

At 13:29 of the first half, Samson Johnson of UConn made a slam to level the score 2-2.

Thankfully, things got better from there, with nine lead changes and the remainder of the half seeing no deficit more than four points.

UConn led 26–24 at the half and traded the lead a few more times before settling into a pattern that helped them win a lot of games throughout the regular season.
